Taking exams is something that I am familiar with. I had taken the SAT, TOEFEL and all the Computer Engineering exams you can think of back in my College years. So, I thought that GMAT would be no different and began studying vigorously whenever I had free time after work. As the deadline for MBA admission was approaching, my confidence grew and grew as I got better and better at solving problems. Finally, I decided that it was time.

On the day of the exam, I woke up, looked myself in the mirror and repeatedly told myself that “I’m ready”. I took a cab to the exam center, entered the GMAT exam room and began the most frustrated 210 minutes of my life. Everything I had study, I forgot. Math problems that I felt confidence with became problems that took forever to solve. The Verbal problems that I could solve became unsolvable. I had blanked out during the exam. When I finished the last problem, I pressed “Next” and prepared myself for the worst. I saw the number 640 on the screen (47 for quant and 33 for verbal) and felt as if my world had collapsed. The amount of work I spent studying seemed to be in vain.

After I had calmed myself down, the very first person I thought of was P’A, who I am close with. He had warned me 6 months earlier that GMAT is not like any other exam where you can do by solving problems quickly. I thought, at that moment, of how correct he was and decided to call him and report my score. He immediately consoled me and told me to try and take one lesson with him so that he can show me how he approaches GMAT differently from me. I decided to give it a shot.

The first lesson was a complete eye opener for me. The way he solve each problem is extremely direct and straight forward in a way that I had never fathomed. The framework he uses to solve this problem is extremely easy, powerful, and elegant. If there is one thing, I hope you take from reading this long journal, it is that I hope you just try and take one lesson with him. It will save you hundreds of hours and possibly thousands of dollars I promise. As you guessed it, after the first lesson, I was immediately convinced and scheduled the next.

After about 10 or so lessons, I had finished studying his six frameworks and he introduced me to my Verbal teacher, who also had the same approach as P’A in the way that he uses frameworks to solve the GMAT verbal problem. He is very systematic in eliminating answer choices for Sentence Correction and in finding the most logical solution for Critical Reasoning. Furthermore, he answered my question in the most straight forward manner and does not try to use ambiguous reasoning like most tutors do. Last but not least, his humor and his enthusiasm make me feel right at home.

3 Months had gone by and I rescheduled my next exam. To be honest, my expectation was low, and I was feeling extremely humble and small. Ironically looking back, my ego was extremely high going into the first exam. I expected myself to do fine compared to the last time but had prepared myself to do another one or two exams if it is necessary. I went in and 210 minutes later, I saw a 750 on my screen (51 quant and 40 verbal). I felt extremely relieved and had nearly passed out from elation. I immediately called my family and then my teachers to inform them of my score. I did it! I got the score!

After I calmed down, I felt thankfulness for the support that this institution had given me throughout my GMAT journey. It was not easy and required lots of hard work but it worth it.
